AD-diction

Ads today are always trying to trick and pull people in.  using words such as “help” and “virtually” help sell a product by making claims seem more then what they are.  For example, in a commercial with products used for acne on your face it usually states that it will help cure acne.  Some people would say “wow, let’s get that”, but the truth is that it will only help cure acne it won’t actually cure it. All ads in America somehow always manipulate large margins of people.  They use what we know and love to draw us in.  a lot of ads today for example uses sex to get us to get a product, and for the other half who are virgins they use drugs to sell it to us lol.  It’s this one commercial that is trying to sell planters peanuts and they have a hideous lady walking up the street with every dude looking at her as she walks by.  Now the lady is very ugly, so why does she get all this attention from guys?  The commercial is implying that no matter how ugly you are you can always get all the ladies or males you want as long as you eat planter’s peanuts.  Well sounds good enough so I will go buy me some, you should too.  By the way, I’m not calling you ugly lmao.  The Geico commercials have a weird meaning as well “so easy a caveman can do it”.  I think that this ad has A very unique way of putting their point out.  On the ad they have cavemen who seem very intelligent, but yet it’s so easy a cave man can do it.  People usually laugh at this ad ignorant of that fact that they are calling us dumb.  The cave men are smart and have a large vocabulary which a lot of people don’t have so they are saying if you are not smart as the caveman in this ad then you will have trouble.  Is that a lot to take in because I am confused writing this.  I think that a lot of ads have secret meanings and messages behind them, but if there is one thing that Americans are good at it’s scamming.  I guess you have to make a dollar somehow.  Next time you see an ad think to yourself and see what you get out of it because most likely the first thought is the right one.

My Eng1020 Experience

My English 1020, I want to write this blog about our class because I really liked this class. As I am from India, I am not very much familiar with the system of education of USA. The thing I like in this class was the help that I got from our teacher and my classmates. It was really a new experience for me to be in the class where I have to give presentations in the class. I really learned a lot. Our teacher was very helpful to me. The way I learned the meanings of different symbols and I came to know what they symbolizes. As English is not my first language, so I always had complex inside me that I can’t speak English in front of whole bunch of group of people, but in our class we have to do the presentation for the paper, so I did the presentation in the class. When I left the class I had different felling about myself.
The readings we did in the class helped to analyze different things. In doing these blog posts I felt like free in doing some assignment, which was also like different for me, because in the blog posts we can write anything, whatever we feel free to write. I don’t know too much about American music, by doing the final research paper on music, which I did on Rise of Jazz Music and the major players in the rise, I think I learned something new.
I don’t have many words to write over here. I just wrote what I feel about the class. I think this class was my best class in USA till now. I was worried before how I am going to study over here in USA, but now I think if we have proper guidelines and help, nothing is hard to be done. I really had proper guidelines and support in this class. I learned a lot in My English 1020, post your comments about your experience

Pnjabi Music And Culture

Punjab is a state of India, which has highly fertile land and its music and culture, comprises of different religion and communities. As I am from Punjab, so through this blog, I want to give the outline of Punjabi music and culture. Punjabi Culture is one of the oldest and richest cultures in world history, from ancient times to the modern era. The Punjabi Culture is the culture of the Punjabi people who are now distributed throughout the world. The scope, history, sophistication and complexity of the culture are vast. Some of the main areas include, Punjabi Philosophy, poetry, spirituality, education, music, cuisine, science, technology, Due to the values and heritage of the Punjabi Culture, the Punjabi people have become one of the most successful and wealthiest sections of society in the west, this is in addition to on average being the wealthiest in India.
Punjabi music is being used by western musicians, in many ways, such as mixing it with other compositions to produce award-winning music. In addition, Punjabi Classical music is increasingly becoming popular in the west and getting more and more popularity due to the beauty of sounds of the Punjabi language and its composition.Music is a big deal in punjab, and there are different Punjabi Music art forms and Bhangra is one of them. Bhangra is very popular all across the world. Bhangra celebrates the harvest and is associated with the festival of Baisakhi (April 13) when the sight of tall heaps of golden wheat fill the farmer’s heart with joy. To the accompaniment of large drums called dhols, he and his fellow villagers circle round and round in a leaping, laughing caper. It’s a dance that cuts across all divisions of class and education. At marriages, parties, or celebrations of any sort, it is quite common for men to break out in Bhangra.
Punjab has attained an equally eminent place in the world of both performing and visual arts and in literature. In the field of poetry, created a sense of pride and climate of involvement. The roots of Punjabi culture can be seen anywhere in the world. An example of this can be seen in New York and California where you can see American girls wearing Punjabi suits and Punjabi dresses.
It is a culture which equality is a living value: the idea that one man is more pure of soul or more deserving of respect and reward is anathema to the Punjabi. He lives by the credo Dab ke wah Te raj ke kha — work hard and eat your fill

The movie 8 Mile was one of the most successful movies of the year 2002. The movie is supposed to serve somewhat as a bio for the incredible rap artist Eminem and his journey through Detroit to get to the top. However I think the movie’s Detroit is different from the real Detroit.

The Shelter in the movie definitely captured the freestyle battle grounds of what is known in Detroit St. Andrew’s. Countless battles were held there in the basement of St. Andrew’s. I also believe 8 Mile captured the Detroit rap artists well. During the of Eminem’s journey through hip hop, his battles became legendary. In the movie, to triumph over Eminem rappers pulled the “race card” to win. Rappers did the same thing in the real Detroit. At the Hip Hop Shop in the 1990s, Royce Da 5’9”, however did not lose to Eminem but demolished him after pulling the “race card” to win the battle he almost lost.

In the movie you can also notice the atmosphere of the environment in Detroit. Burned down buildings and houses are everywhere in Detroit. In the real it is the same also. After the riots of ’67, buildings were left torched and standing, if possible. Rapes and crime are also high in Detroit and I think they added that to the atmosphere of the movie. There’s a scene where the characters talk about a little girl getting raped in an abandoned building by a crack head. These horrific crimes occur in Detroit more frequently than many cities.

The movie also captures the Detroit-Suburb dividing line which is known as 8 Mile. However, across this dividing line, trailer parks are not seen at all. I think Eminem just wanted to touch on the idea of the poverty he came from and where his rise to fame began. Also in the movie, The Chin Tiki was their playing grounds. However, I have seen the Chin Tiki downtown and it is abandoned and has fire damage. On the other hand, I do not know when this once party hotspot stopped its business.

I think 8 Mile captures the image of Detroit. Though some differences steer away from the movie’s depiction, the setting and the atmosphere of Detroit in the movie gives truth to the Detroit of the 1990s and even today.

Ex credit: David Beckham saving soccer in America

First came the legendary Pelé in the mid-1970s for one final payday, opening the gate for international star power and raising the status of the league greatly. The Brazilian made the NASL one of the most popular leagues in the world. Now, more than 30 years later, David Beckham’s arrival will be even bigger for Major League Soccer. Although he’s not the player that Pelé was, the truth is, the David Beckham signing is more monumental than Pelé’s. Beckham comes to America in a far different situation than the aging Brazilian did. Beckham comes in the prime of his career. Beckham’s signing will transform the league more than any other player in the world could have. This is a different world and landscape then the one Pele walked into in 1975. David Beckham, living in a paparazzi-infested planet, is one of the icons of his generation and literally transcends sports. In an era of cable television, tabloids and instant access via the Internet, David Beckham has bridged the gulf of soccer to a nation that has embraced sports played with its hands only. David Beckham, though a fraction of the player that the legendary Pelé was, has far more name recognition in this country than the former Cosmos player had three decades ago when he signed with the team. This summer, however, Beckham will be taking on more then just MLS defenders. The United States is the most unique soccer country in the world. It’s perhaps the only place where the national team can be a visitor in its own stadium, where the sport is ridiculed. This all means that there is more to lose this time around. If Pelé came in and failed, soccer would have remained an anomaly and a curious experiment. When Pelé came to America, soccer was an unknown, barely a blip on the radar. Now, Beckham’s signing is perhaps soccer last great hope in this country. His success could well determine exactly how far MLS can go and thrive. The league now has reached the point of no return. With one big splash, expectations are high and they will only get higher. Like Pelé in the 1970s, you can’t go back after signing David Beckham.

Education

Education

In today’s society a education is one of the most important and priceless things one could ever obtain in his or her life. It is essential to the way we live our day to day lives . Through education you could better familiarize yourself with other cultures and diversities in the world without having to travel. An education could be use as a tool to create social bond with others of your educational level. There are a lot of people who could proudly say that their a graduate of some highly accredited high school or university. Most of these people are extremely successfully in their chosen careers. Careers that allow them to live an maintain comfortable lifestyles. There are also some who aren’t so lucky to have a education. These are usually the people that are not as successful as their well educated counterparts. Not to say that people that are not educated are not successfully because there are millions of successful movie stars, athletes and business men and women, who aren’t educated. The few People who don’t have education’s and are not successfully, either are not motivated to do anything about their situation or just use excuses as why they are not successful. They’re usually excuses like the man doesn’t want them to progress or I’m not qualified enough for the job. What they fail to realize is that education plays a huge factor. This is what I consider to be just plain lazy. Laziness should never play a role in our self- empowerment. Everyone has the right to to obtain knowledge in our society. Without it were not becoming all that we possibly can be can be. Today’s job market isn’t like it was twenty years ago, to where you could get a good paying stable enough job to support your family. Now you have to have some type of degree or certification in order to get a job paying enough to make ends meet. Most people are pushing toward trades. Having a trade is always great to have because it teaches you to become an entrepreneur as well as teach you a skill. In essence I’m all for education. The way I see it, it’s one of the only ways to survive in this economically tough society.

Things that are feminine and things that are masculine .

I love being a woman . I ’m so happy I was born as a girl because girls have more fun then the boys do  . We can do more fun stuff then the boys . I love to have my hair done, my nails done , to change clothes like five times a day . I do most of the stuff that are feminine  but I am not ashamed to admit that I also do things that are masculine . For example I like to watch sports , play soccer or basketball . Also I like to go fishing with my father .
I don’t understand people who make fun of boys who do their own laundry or who like to cook . We should accept people for who they are not for what they do and if they are a boy we make sure that they do things that are masculine . I like boys who are not  ashamed to admit that they do things that are feminine . I would like to find a boy who would not be ashamed to cry in front of me because it is not appropriate for boys to cry . I think that is sexy when boy cries . Everybody has a right to do what they want to do and it doesn’t matter if boys do things that are feminine or girls do things that are masculine . The world is made of billions of people who are different from one another and we should accept everybody for who they are . I don’t care if my friend does things that society thinks are not appropriate for their gender , because I don’t care what society thinks as long as my friend is happy and doesn’t do any harm by wearing or doing what they like to do . The society thinks what most people think and it’s   wrong because we have right to say or do whatever we want to and if anxiety doesn’t like it so be it . Why watching a sport and drinking a beer while doing it has to be a masculine thing? . Why it can’t be both feminine and masculine thing . There  are a lot of girls who love to watch sports and drink beer because it’s good and tasty and it makes you feel happy and relaxed .

The World Without Music .

Sometimes I wonder how world would look like if there would be no music at all  on it . Just the thought of it makes me sad and  worry . If there would be no music , what people would listen to or dance to ? . There would be no point of going to clubs and disco if there would be no music that we would dance to . How people would live without music ? . Would be the world a different place ? . A better place or worse place to live in ?.

To me music is like a cure   . Whenever I feel sad or lonley I turn on my favorite song and the whole world just changes for the better . Music makes me feel happy and relaxed . When I’m bored I like to dance . It’s a lot of fun and a great exercise .The dancing makes my problems disappear  . It doesn’t matter in what kind of mood I am I always can find a songs that I can relate to and that makes me feel like I’m not the only one person who has the same problems that I have .

By the music that people listen to we can tell what kind of pesron they are . There is a lot of different kinds of music in the world .There is jazz, pop , R’n’B , rock , hip hop, rap and more . No matter what age you are I can guarantee everybody can find a music that they would like to listen to  and that everybody has their own favorite song or artist .

I like to listen to R’n’B , country and techno music . I love to dance to techno music it’s a lot of fun and you get a good exercise doing it . When I’m driving long distance I like to listen to country music because I have fun singing lyrics and it doesn’t makes me sleepy like the other music like hip-hop does  . Also I like to listen to polish rap music because I like the lyrics that they are singing . Their songs are about real life and situations that I can relate to  . The only one of kind of music I don’t like is the metallic . It’s too loud for me and I can’t understand a word they are saying .

I am glad that we have a lot of opportunities to listen to different kinds of music because without the music probably the world would be a sad , boring and quite place to live in .

Life & Death

Life & Death

The dictionary defines death as being the end of life or the cause of loss of life. I however interpret it a different way. I see death as being the next level of life. In this blog I will explain my interpretation of both life and death. The death of someone close for a lot of people could be the most painstaking experience one could ever encounter. I always thought that I was callous to death because I didn’t feel as hurt as everyone else did when someone died. By feeling this way about death I thought that there was something seriously wrong with me. That’s was until someone very close to me passed away. then I realized that I had never been this close to someone to pass before. What I thought were callous feelings towards death suddenly turned into a river of tears. In trying to understand how and why something like this would happened to a person like them. I came to understand the true meaning of life. We are all put here for a purpose and that purpose is to see who can maintain faith throughout trial and tribulation so that we can get to the otherside. Which is a much more peaceful and tranquil place. The only way to get to this better side of life is through faith first and then death. It took me along time to realize the true meaning of life but I’m glad that I am blessed enough to have a better understanding. I’ve noticed that people tend to get the perception of life being about material things. Such as money, cars, jewels and things of that nature. I always knew that wasn’t the answer. That never made any scenes how someone can think that a supreme being can make our sole purpose on earth is to “Get Money”. Not to say money is a bad thing but just not an objective in life. While here on earth we should try to live the most righteous lives that we can so that we possibly can. Because if we do live by rules it is certain what side were going on.
